Do Not Conform to the Pattern of this World
Scripture: Romans 12:2: Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Meditation: What is the pattern of this world? I think it would be safe to say, in a word; selfishness. Being self-absorbed, self-centered – being more concerned with self than anything else. Are we exempt from this as Christians? NO! Does this pattern affect our lives in a major way? YES! From how we deal with our spouse, children, friends and co-workers, to how we view the world at large. When we think of self first, we will be closed to even knowing God's will, much less doing it. It is when we are transformed by the renewing of our minds – when we become other focused, that we will be able to know God's will and be willing to do it. This world is out for number one; we are to love God with all our heart, soul and strength and our neighbor as ourselves. When we are reaching out to others, we are doing the will of God – we can know, test and approve of what His will is.
Challenge: The challenge is simple, quit being self-centered, self-concerned, self-absorbed. Making the challenge a part of your life is not easy. You must be transformed by the renewing of your mind – to walk in the Spirit, pray always, love others deeply – seek after God with everything within you. It is the challenge of life – to crucify self and leave it behind – to take up the cross daily.
Thought for the Day: Today – I will focus on the Lord and others seeking to bless and meet their needs, rather than on myself and seeking to have my needs met.
