Kindness
I have a habit that tends to irritate people. I tend to be kind to everyone, even people who are not kind to me. I don’t know why this is so upsetting to so many people. Perhaps it is the “eye for an eye” society that we live in. People are told to take no abuse and to give as good as they get. It seems alright for the rude or unkind to be punished in some way.
I myself prefer a gentler way. I know that there are rude, mean, and even cruel people out there. I have found, though, that returning their rudeness doesn’t make them any nicer. In fact, it makes them even more mean than they were before. In addition I find that returning their rudeness makes me more like them. That is something that I definitely don’t want. This is why I always try to return kindness for meanness, forgiveness for hurtfulness, and love for hate. It is hard work at times, but it is definitely worth it. When I do so I find that my heart stays loving, my mind stays happy, and my spirit stays joyful. In addition, I find that it even helps the rude person sometimes. Usually it either confuses or annoys them, but sometimes it helps them to be kinder and more loving as well.
Don’t be afraid to be a kind person. Kindness brings so much joy, love, and delight to this world. In a sometimes rude society there is no better shield than kindness. Kindness brings light and goodness to your heart and to the hearts of everybody you share it with. It may irritate the angry people to see you being so kind, but in time it may also show them the way to a happier life. Remember, a kind heart is one of God’s greatest gifts. Find the kindness within your own heart, bring it out into your own life, and share it that wonderful gift with the world.
