Jesus-The Approachable One
“Come unto me.” These are great words from the greatest friend: Jesus the
approachable One. Here is a perfectly holy Lord completely self-sufficient and
sustained. He survived in eternity past without us and could do the same again;
but love has gripped His heart.
Those of you who have held your newborn baby understand what “gripping love” is
all about. Something happens when that new life that you helped to form comes
into this world that totally changes your perspective. I imagine this is what it
was like for God as He made Adam. Out of nothing He created this new life and as
He breathed into him I can sense the swelling pride that ensued. As a new father
glows and gleefully weeps at the sight of his glorious gift of life, I can
imagine the Father of all life full of joy over His precious creation. He walked
with Adam in the cool of the day and gave him the gift of love in Eve. He wanted
Adam to be able to experience the joy of union and the pride of fatherhood. When
He was betrayed His love carried on. He made provision for salvation before it
was needed. Jesus, for the joy set before Him (you), endured the cross. What
great love! He came knowing the very people He came for would reject Him, yet
still He did it. He stepped from eternity into a world that He knew would kill
Him for the saving grace He offered. God knew your sins and picked you anyway.
He is always ready to save and rescue. He is God and that’s what He does.
His is a story of redemptive love. From the prophet He told to marry the
prostitute; to the king He declared was a man “after His own heart” after he
lusted over and took in a woman and then, to hide his sin, had her husband
killed. He is the One who takes what is improbable, no, impossible, and makes it
His mission to see it accomplished. So no matter where you are today, fear not
you can come to God. He is approachable and He is waiting for you.
