Guard Yourself
Scripture: Nahum 2:1: An attacker advances against you. Guard the fortress, watch the road, brace yourselves, marshal all your strength!
Meditation: The prophet admonishes Nineveh to prepare because an attack comes, yet doesn't this also apply to us as we defend ourselves from the attacks of our spiritual enemies? Especially Satan who wants to see us all destroyed? We know that Satan and the world both want to see Christians fall and will tempt us any way they can. We can not sit idly and not expect to succumb to the wiles of the devil and his cohorts - he is an attacker who advances against us.
We guard ourselves, by building our faith through dependence on the Lord in every aspect of our life. Studying the Word of God and incorporating it into our daily lives will strengthen us in our walk with the Lord and help us stand firm in Him through temptation. Watching and being aware of how attacks may come will help us avoid falling into sin. The attacks will come; we must brace or strengthen ourselves, to prepare for the battle. Prayer, worship, and remaining in God's Word should be a part of our daily lives to guard ourselves against the attackers who seek to destroy us.
Challenge: Do you guard yourself? Is prayer an on-going part of you daily - even moment by moment life? Do you praise the Lord and worship Him every day? Do you study His Word and hide it in your heart - memorizing Scripture to help you stand against the attacks of temptation? You can be assured Satan is active in his desire to destroy you - be active defending yourself from his attacks.
Thought for the Day: Lord, help me to cling to You and remain close to you so that I may repel all attacks that come at me.
